Lord Tweemouth
The origin of the golden retriever is best known among all retriever breeds.
in 1868 Lord Tweemouth mated Nous ( a yellow wavy coated retriever) to Belle ( a tweed water spaniel)
At that time this breed was described to be a liver-coloured, wavy coated dog looking like a small retriever. Between 1868 and 1890 Lord Tweedmouth bred this line very carefully. During that time he took into his breeding programme two black retrievers, a sand-coloured bloodhound and an other tweed spaniel.

The most influential golden breeding of the century was the kennel of Lord Harcourt Culham, that he built up from dogs coming from Lord Tweedmouth's kennel, which is said to be "the cradle" of all goldens.
In 1913 The English Kennel Club registered the breed golden retriever as an official breed.
It has had some typechanges ever since, but always remaining an excellent and maniac retrieving dog of hunters: playable and always calm mate of the children in the family, of the elderly, handicapped and mentally ill people. Due to its beauty this breed has also been a star of shows, advertisements and films. It has had an outstanding success and carrier in the dog world.
